1. What does online tutoring cost in the US / Canada?

Costs vary depending on the subject, the tutor’s qualifications, and frequency of sessions. At Abugida Education, we provide transparent pricing with options for single sessions, recurring weekly sessions, and group tutoring which tend to lower per-session cost. We’ll give you a clear quote in your free consultation.

2. What qualifications do Abugida’s tutors / mentors have?

Our mentors are professionally vetted. Many hold at least a bachelor’s degree in the subject they teach, some have master’s or higher; some are certified teachers, native language speakers for language tutoring (e.g., Amharic), or have specialized experience (e.g., SAT prep, college admissions). We also check for teaching experience, communication skills, and feedback from prior students.

3. Which subjects and exams does Abugida support (e.g., SAT/ACT / advanced math / languages)?

We cover a wide range: core school subjects (Math, Science, English, Social Studies), advanced topics (Calculus, Computer Science, AP / IB courses), standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, etc.), and languages (including Amharic / native African languages). If there’s something specific you need, just ask—we often customize.

4. How does the scheduling work for online sessions?

Flexible. Because Abugida Education is fully virtual, you can schedule sessions that work around your time zone, school / work hours, weekends, evening sessions etc. We provide tools to pick times, reschedule within policies, and coordinate with your mentor.

5. What is the first lesson like? How do you get started?

When you sign up, you’ll have a free consultation: we assess your current level (via diagnostic or conversation), your goals (test prep, grade improvement, language fluency, etc.), and your preferences (learning style, pace). Then we match you with a mentor and build a lesson plan tailored to your needs.

6. What if I don’t like my mentor or the teaching style?

Your satisfaction matters. If the mentor isn’t a good fit (for reasons like teaching style, communication, schedule), we’ll find you a different mentor at no extra cost. We also gather feedback regularly and adjust your learning plan as you progress.

7. How do you measure progress / success?

We use periodic assessments, quizzes, tracked assignments and mentor feedback. We also set goals together (for grades, test scores, fluency) and review progress toward those. If we find gaps, we adjust the plan so you don’t waste time repeating what you know.

8. What technology / tools do I need for online tutoring?

Basic tech setup: reliable high-speed internet, a computer or tablet, webcam, microphone. We’ll use digital whiteboards, screen sharing, video conferencing tools. All learning materials are supplied online, so no need for buying lots of extra books unless you want them.

9. Do you offer trial sessions or discounts for multiple lessons / packages?

Yes. Abugida Education offers a free consultation so you can see if we’re a good match. We also offer package pricing (e.g., blocks of sessions at a reduced rate), and sometimes group sessions or other discount options.

10. Is online tutoring effective compared to in-person?

Many studies and user testimonials show online tutoring, when done right (high quality tutor, good tech, tailored lesson), is just as effective—and sometimes more convenient and efficient. Students avoid travel time, can access a wider tutor pool, learn at their own pace, and review recordings/materials at need.

11. What’s the cancellation or rescheduling policy?

We understand life happens. Abugida has a flexible rescheduling policy with 48 hours notice and fair cancellation windows. If there’s an emergency, we work with you to make adjustments. Specific policies are shared at sign-up.

12. How do you ensure safety, privacy, and security in online sessions?

We use secure platforms for video and communication. Student data is kept private. Our mentors are vetted (including background where applicable), we protect recordings & resources, and only share identity/contact info that’s necessary. All sessions are conducted in secure, encrypted environments.

13. Can international / out-of-state students use Abugida?

Yes. Because we’re online, we serve students across US & Canada (and beyond). Time zone compatibility is considered when matching with mentors. As long as you have internet access and minimal tech setup, you’re good to go.

14. How far in advance should I start test prep?

For SAT / ACT prep, many students begin 6 months before test date for optimal results, doing regular sessions. If you're aiming very high or retaking, starting earlier helps. We can help you plan a schedule depending on your test date, current level, and target score.

15. What makes Abugida different from other online tutoring companies?

  • Lesson plans that skip content you already know (“no-repeat”)

  • Focus on confidence, synchronous 1-on-1 plus flexible scheduling

  • Wide subject coverage including native language instruction and college admissions support
